What is a Counterweight Frame?
The counterweight frame is a rectangular component that ensures traction between the traction sheave and the suspension ropes. It serves as a counterbalance for the weight of the elevator car. Elevator counterweight frames also provide the structure which secures the bars or slugs of counterweight filler weights.
This reduces the load on the motor and thus the energy demand helps ensure adequate traction for the drive-sheave pulley and creates not only smoother but also safer elevator operation.
